Network install quicktime, set file associations, disable autoupdate.

I've just been looking at silent installs for quicktime, which seems to work with no problems, but doesn't register itself to actually open .mov files which was the entire point of installing it - it looks like nothing gets associated with quicktime at all. Are these file associations stored in the user profile or are they set for the computer? If I end up using mandatory profiles would I just set this in the profile or am I going to have to deploy with a transform, installer switch, or registry fragment? Also how do I stop quicktime from checking for updates and prompting people to upgrade.

I have updates turned off, icon gone from system tray, and a few other preferences set. This was achieved through a combination of transform changes and copying a pre-configured quicktime.qtp file after the install using a vbscript. The only thing I didn't bother with is disabling the content guide, for this I would need to copy a pre-set QTPlayerSession.xml file into the user profile which is beyond my requirements at the moment.

 

Running Quicktime and setting the settings both on your SOE before deployment and mandatory profile before capturing it will achieve the same.

Adam - Where do you copy the "customized" quicktime.qtp file so that all the new profiles (domain users) get the customized settings? Do you have a login script copying it to the localLow folder for each user or is there a way to replace the "default" quicktime.qtp file that quicktime draws upon when new profiles are created?

On a 'normal' install QuickTime.qtp is located at: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\

and QTPlayerSession.xml is located at: %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\

 

I have not test this myself, but I assume if you copy those files to Default User instead of the current logged-in user all users get these files, if I find some time today I will look into it.
