DNS Query

I now have 3 servers, one of which is a Win 2008 R2 that was introduced into the domain today.

 

In the IPv4 properties of the LAN connection, which should be the preferred DNS and which should be the alternate?

 

The preferred is showing as the primary DC to Win 2003 server and the alternate is pointing to itself as 127.0.0.1. Is this right?

The alternate can be either itself if it handles DNS or it can be another DNS controller on the network.

Yes, put your prefered DNS as your PDC and then put the Secondary as your BDC, you can also specify your local loop back address in the Advance TCP/IP settings section, Properties -> Advanced -> DNS.

Tut Tut a local loopback is your 127.0.0.1 address, it's just another name for it.
