SimpleSi Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 A teacher laptop is hanging during boot and I need a copy of the tosh XP downgrade CD that comes with these machines to try to repair it. (I only ever bought one of thes laptops and the teacher has lost the original CDs ) If anyone has a copy (or a tosh CD that they might think would work - please contact me) I've tried 2 other manufacturers XP CD's but they both blue screen on me and my dodgy BartPE XP boot CD hangs as well Help please ! regards Simon
SYNACK Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Tried a fresh unedited OEM copy of windows XP? If you don't have an OEM one you can easily make one by using these instructions an a fresh volume or retail copy http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/16/how-to-change-windows-xp-version-between-retail-oem-and-volume-license-channel/ Edited March 28, 2010 by SYNACK
jamesreedersmith Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 If its a tosh you will need to chnage the hard drive mode in the bios to install windows cant remember the exact setting buts its a compatibility mode. Once you have done that and installed windows and the hard drive driver you can normally change it back. Hope that helps THanks James 1

Hope that helps THanks James Yes as above, that is the case if you have a SATA hard drive in the laptop. If you have you neeed to go into the bios and look for something like 'SATA native mode' or something of that desciption and disable it. Then your PC will think it is on an IDE hard drive. Also have you got a volume licence version off XP? That can work instead off OEM if you need a full reinstall. Hope you have some luck.
SimpleSi Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 If its a tosh you will need to chnage the hard drive mode in the bios to install windows Ta That's stopped it blue-screening on another manufactures OEM CD - will see if I can do anything to fix it now I'm in regards Simon (PS still prob going to need a copy of the XP downgrade CD to re-install though!)
SimpleSi Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 I have no volume licensed copies of XP - I just use whatever comes with a PC. Simon
