Missing shortcuts to user SMB shares

My users are supposed to log onto our suite of iMacs and have both a local and network folder appear in the dock. This action is forced through the use of an OS X Open Directory Master.

This works very well... except for when I'm not about it seems! People are reporting that their network folder isn't appearing. It seems very much hit and miss!

The permissions are all set correctly so that the folders can be browsed to and the users can obviously access these folders as they are also their Windows homedrives.

Any ideas welcomed. If anybody thinks they can spread some light on the subject, please PM me your number so that we can have a quick chat :D

@choran: I tink I narrowed this down to DNS issues...cisn't it always the case? It seems more reliable now with it only happening occasionally and I've shown the main users how to re-add the folder manually.
