Outlook Problem HELP!!!!

Hi Again,

I have been trawling the internet for about an hour now trying to find a solution to this problem, well i have since i started here but im fed up with it as its a real thorn in my side. Basically in some instances when i try to set up an outlook account, bearing in mind that it is Microsoft Outlook 2003, It fails on me, im trying to set up a pop account to our mail server, and its only on some machines it does this so i am 100% certain it must be the workstation im on. I put in the users name, the username and the password, and put in the details for out mail server which is 192.168.0.5 both on the pop and the SMTP now the ports are usually unchanged and there is no SSL. When i test the account I get,

 

"Send Test E-mail Message: The specifed server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please berify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings close this dialog, then click more settings and click on the advanced tab."

 

I have trawled through many forums and have tried changing the SMTP port to 2525 but i know 25 isnt blocked, but i thought i would humour the idea, and have checked everything. Its a complete fresh install, and its frustrating, I hope im not the only one experiencing this! Any Ideas please?

 

oh and also if you create a thread, and your done with it how do you close it, or dont you does a moderator manage that! Thank You!!

Not sure about the outlook problem, but I am thinking firewall... is the windows firewall active on the local machine?

 

As for closing threads... a post that you've solved the problem is enough for people to lose interest. Threads are only formally closed when the rioting gets out of hand!

Ok, I have no idea but it has started working however I wish I would of know what was causing it, if it arrises again I would know where to look thank you once again!

run wireshark and watch the network traffic from your local machine.

 

You should see what it's trying to do and (hopefully!) spot what it's getting wrong - eg is it trying to contact a DNS server? Trying to connect on port 250 (no idea why!)? Getting some kind of response from the server to which it doesn't respond.

 

Is this something where user A on machine 1 always works but user A on machine 2 sometimes fails (so it looks as if the fault is with a machine) or could user A sometimes work on any machine and sometimes fail on the same machine (so it looks as if the fault could be with the server) or does user A always have problems (so maybe the fault is with the user account)?
