Yes we had this. Fire brigade were called as the battery was having some kind of thermal runaway.

 

I got into trouble for removing the battery and putting it in the middle of the empty car park. luckily it was the summer hols.

 

Good times

 

we now have physical room checks and a battery replacement program.

 

Lessons learnt by all.

Thermal events/thermal runaway isn't good at the best of times, let alone when you consider the amount of energy your UPS' can hold. I'm not convinced I'd want to move it, but I'm not convinced I'd want to leave it put, either!

You'll notice it straight away when it smells..... no need to go sniffing around on your hands & knees although i was told by the Fire dept that its toxic.... hence why i got into trouble for entering the server room and removing it.

 

you might want to consider removing it if you suspect an issue, as it could be too late when you need to take action. I vividly remember thinking..... if i don't remove this..... it's going to burn the school/server room down...... i don't need that kind of stress right now!
