Hi Everyone.

I've been tasked with setting up the new academic year in Sims.net since the person who used to do it has left (you know how it is)

I've got a "walk though" booklet from our LEA support team, but was wondering a few other things before I begin.

1 - What soft of information do I need from other people before I start (dates etc?)

2 - If I cock it up, can I delete/undo what I’ve done, and start again (easily I mean)

3 - And finally, if I cock things up, can it have re-percussions on the working of Sims on a whole?

Tis the first time I’ve done this, and I’m a tad nervous.

Any top tips from anyone who has already done this would be ace.

Oh, and i'm TOLD that it has to be done by this coming Friday.

Many thanks

Try to do it when nobody else is on SIMS as it does take quite a bit of server rescources when you click the button to actually create the academic year, (Not before then though)

Get as many of the dates you know about next year (We start new academic year on the first inset day before students come back.)

Work through the document from SIMS religiously. We've used it for many years and found it to be very helpful and complete. If you get stuck with something, give the support desk a call.

Answers to questions:-

1 What sort of information do I need from other people before I start (dates etc?) Start of school Year ((if not 01/09/2010!) If you are an LA school then they may decide this!), Term Dates, Holiday Dates, Training Days.

2 If I cock it up, can I delete/undo what I’ve done, and start again (easily I mean). Yes you can edit it - but Timetable needs to be sent to it at some time in the future so it ought to be accurate by then.

3 And finally, if I cock things up, can it have re-percussions on the working of Sims on a whole? It can cock things up but only if it is not right by the time the timetable is sent.

I agree as per above advice.

There's a document you can download from SupportNet that will help you.

I read resource number 12200 this morning as i'm about to embark on this in next few days, it's actually aimed at getting ready to use Options, so a lot of it says, you don't need to know the holiday etc as you can add them later.

I think there is another resource specifically for Next Year stuff, but the one i mention has the same processes.

All i would say is backup, or get whoever is in charge to make a good backup, and make sure everyone is out of SIMS. I plan to do mine after school once everyone is gone, or possibly even overnight, as i need to run a patch anyway, so will be bringing the system down.

Nonetheless editing is easy if you need to.

Report back with any issues.

Good Luck :o)
