GrumbleDook Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 The problem with spelling and grammar on EduGeek is that we have a number of regulars/irregulars/lurker/ghurkas (well ... you never know) that have various forms of dyslexia or dyspraxia. Forums are also a haven for direct speech / stream of consciousness, resulting in the problem where a member will type what they want to speak and include the colloquial language or slang they need. When they read this back before the click 'submit' it means they are likely to hear in there head the correct version and not what has actually been typed in. I am glad we have a number of people who are happy to make little changes to things to make them more readable ... as even a post of this length can actually take me 20 minutes to prepare and check. I tried voice recognition software and had a terrible time with it ... they just don't like my accent or phrasing.
russdev Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Crusty old git I might be, but I must admit that some of the grammatical and spelling errors on Edugeek drive me up the wall. I think that it really looks more professional if things are correctly written, and to be honest, if things are written really badly it is very hard to get the sense of the writing. As for the apostrophe question, I just wish that people would remember that a plural has none!! (yes, I do know that there is a split infinitive in there) Always said if people spot the errors just email me the page and what error is and it will get added to list. If you email [email protected] and gets added to my to-do list. If someone wants to be helpful and go through whole site for us and make list of mistakes then great no problem at all. Russell
k-strider Posted November 21, 2006 Author Posted November 21, 2006 I bet you watch that quiz show about grammar don't you? I saw it and they had to put in, or take out, aposrophes that were wrong. I'm no grammatical expert but I do like to correct students if they email me Never mind the full stops on BBC four on a Wed at 11pm though i think it is just finishing this week...
Ric_ Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 If someone wants to be helpful and go through whole site for us and make list of mistakes then great no problem at all. Well volunteered! Of course, you might not be the best man for the job
