I hope this is in the right place.

On a Win2008 server I have created a script that archives to a.7z. This works fine if I run the script manually creating d:\program files\7-zip\a.7z. If I run via scheduler 7zip creates a.7z in serval different locations, meaning I cannot backup up several schools into their own vaults not knowing where the file will be created.

Any one know how to set the folder it will create the archive in?

If you wanted this to always go into the C:\Zipped folder, you would specify it like so:

7z.exe a C:\Zipped\a.7z c:\data\simsdata

Modify C:\Zipped as necessary.

That's great. However I have a member of staff who would like to backup Sims each day. Is there a way of including a variable which will insert the date into the backup archive automatically?

This way I will not have to manage the backups for him. All the 7Zip file can be backed up to the external HDD he has at the end of the day and everyone is happy [including the auditors due in soon]

Thank. I'll use that anyway but we may have found the problem is with Server 2008's tasks and have now added the location the task should run from. This at first glance is working.

Our script renames the archives and deletes the oldest so we have a.7z - h.7z with a.7z, being the newest.

Update: Everything working now. It came down to setting the script to run from D:\ in the Scheduled Tasks, rather than leave it blank.
