[ubuntu] Mapping a webfolder to linux on boot

Hi all,

 

As I am the "linux expert" of the office - a position I fear I hold simply because I don't regard the OS with fear or loathing, rather than because of actual skill - I have been asked to write a shell script to do the equivalent of mapping an online folder to a drive in windoze. The online folder is basically the personal documents folder on our SharePoint VLE. Its mapped on our windows machines as below:

 

In XP: Tools => Map Network Drive then type in http://webfolders.xxxxxx.sch.uk/Personal/%username%

 

Then obviously you whack in the domain login details and it works a treat, and we have a script to run on login to map it automatically.

 

I've touched on Samba before but I'm by no means proficient. All the guides and examples I can find relate to mapping //servername/path rather than webfolders and just chucking in the url doesn't seem to work the same way. Any thoughts on how to go about this?

On boot, available for all users? Or at logon for that specific user?

 

I don't know Sharepoint, but I'm going to guess it's using WebDAV; in which case you will need to mount it using davfs. It can be installed on Ubuntu by doing sudo apt-get install davfs2.

Sorry, yeah I want a different folder for each user on boot. Therefore when I log in I get /paul, when Dave logs in he gets /dave, etc.
