VMware Player - Install XP

I'm probably being extremely thick, but, rather than waste any more time I'm going to admit defeat and get advice.

 

I've got an XP SP3 setup disc in the drive, created a new VM, and told it to use the CD for setup. However it insists on trying to do a network boot.

 

What am I doing wrong?

Where did you tell it to use the CD to boot? Does that CD work in other (physical) machines? Do any other bootable CDs work in VMWare Player?

When you create a new VM it asks you for the source, it's here that I told it to use CD.

 

Yes the XP SP3 disc works, and VMware Player detects it as XP Pro SP3.

 

I had an ISO working in VM earlier.

Can you go into the BIOS setup in VMWare Player? Try to set the boot device to only the CD? Or make an ISO of the XP disc and see if that will work.

what happens if you try booting from a floppy with this image and the XP cd in the cdrom drive?

 

edit - scrap that method (it requires a floppy drive & drive to work). try the iso image route as mentioned above
