Just wondering what template people are starting from when they create the first site collection? I am not sure if I like the publishing portal, but dont think I want a team site as my top level.

I have been given the task to look into Sharepoint. I myself have no knowledge of this so any comments on this would be greatly recieved. Sorry to jump on this thread but seems a good thread to learn from.

cheers

Have got Sharepoint 2010 running in full flow. Implemented online office web apps which I think is very good. Capability to alter themes on the fly is nice but

seems abit lenthy. Overall it looks and feels very nice. Again the main reason that I would upgrade is solely for the online office web apps.

We currently have MOSS 2007 but we're thinking of upgrading to 2010 after we had a demo last week. It looks really good, much easier to use that 2007 by all accounts.

However, I've just heard that there is going to be an adapted version of SharePoint 2010 next year which is aimed at the Education sector. Apparently it is codenamed ULARU (?) so we might hang fire for this version to come out. If anyone knows about this ULARU please share!

Just some screens from our install that went live today.

Tried to get it working for touchscreens as well as a couple of teachers are messing with ipads in the last few days.

Fresh install, no way I'm migrating all that data ;)

Just going to run them in parallel for a year or so.

The beta for Uluru is due out this year. I saw it last year and it looked promising from what I saw. Can't say much more, still under NDA as far as I'm aware.

@zag - looks cool. is that based on a built in template? i like the sim card -esque buttons. :)

is that MLH you have for the helpdesk? really cool.

we've yet to install sharepoint and mlh, but hoping to do it over the summer.

I made the buttons myself, they are designed for touchscreens hopefully in the future.

The helpdesk is my own creation, its pretty simple and opensource available in my signature.

We actually use another open source system for room bookings now. Its BookIT by high-tower on these forums.
