Block Roaming profiles on certain workstations

I'm forced to give teachers roaming profiles for the use with their laptops but is there away I could block their Desktop, Internet, Office settings etc from loading on the teacher stations, some of their profiles grow quite large as they store docs on the desktop. (don't ask.. quota management)

 

I only learnt yesterday about the loopback setting in Group Policy!

loopback can cause problems - beware.

 

You could set a policy on the size of the profile. This can be done in group policy.

 

Another way would be to create a script to delete all files on the desktop apart form .lnk file. Set this to run at logoff.

just set the profiles to shared desktops and start menus in group policy and have it create a profile on the local machine but not roaming. Teachers think its roaming but in reality all your doing is recreating the profile each time they log onto a new computer.

 

This method stopped every single profile related problem overnight in our school and teachers were none the wiser.

I expect this would mean that an off-line user (teacher at home) would have an empty desktop and no ability to store docs there. I know this is a bad user habit but I've inherited it and I'm not educating lazy users with a magisterial demeanour.

I've got the same sort of problem.

 

Staff have roaming profiles. Teaching staff so they can do whatever they need on their laptop. They can pretty much do what they want on their laptop. We must be lucky, as our staff respect the machines, are we rarely have any problems.

 

For support staff they use Outlook on their workstation.

 

I'd like ideally for staff to keep roaming on their laptop, and when they log onto a desktop get a mandatory profile to set start menu, desktop and My Docs path. This is frankly the one feature of Ranger that I am missing.

 

Has anyone figured out how to do this, without starting to seriously lock down their laptops, which is something I do not want to do.
