Webcam on joomla

We've got the Chicks in again and this year i would like to be able to record them so the rest of the school can see what is going on without disturbing the Reception class they are in.

 

We've got a joomla site so i thought it would be nice to put it on there too. Unfortunately the cam module that SimpleSi used isnt available anymore and i was wondering if someone had something similar i could use?

 

Im only going to be using an USB cam. I've got Yawcam, just need the bit to stream it on the website.

I sometimes use this WheresJames Webcam Publisher - Publish images to your web site using FTP or use the built in server. to upload a image taken from a usb webcam. you should then be able to put it up on joomla somehow.

WebcamXP recording in real time and uploading (ftp) stills every 10s. I used the code generated by WebcamXP in a Jumi module. Worked great and had three separate cameras in the end (incubator, one low level in the brooder and one bird's eye view in the brooder).

Or you could use ustream.tv and not waste any bandwidth, I did this for an art expo and it was succesful enough...

 

Just get cam working on pc, register for service, use there flash interface and click record job and it will start... you can then embed the stream into whatever you want.

 

It will even record it all for playing back.

I have used this, the good thing is it goes right through the firewall. It uses standard ports. Also no port forwarding requried.

Last time I tried Ustream it didn't work through our filtering but will try again.

Hi Si,

 

Thanks for posting the Mod, but im having problems getting Joomla to open it. I can get it to open using 7zip but windows zip says it corrupted.

Opens OK with me just using standard windows extract all here at one of my schools

 

But lets try another way

 

download all files into a folder

rename the .txt to remove .txt extensions

 

then zip up all 3 files into one archive and use that to install.

Ok, daft question....where do i tell the module to look for the webcam stream?

Right ive got yawcam working, got the module installed. When i add it to the location box, which im guessing is correct its not showing up in the module....any help!

So you've got yawcam working and can see the camera feed on the preview window?

 

And you've got the camviewer module enabled and can see the module on one of your pages?

 

(Could you post your website address we can see what's happening?)

 

Next step is to set up yawcam to ftp an image up to your website - KISS and just put it in ../images as webcam.jpg

OK.

 

In yawcam, you need to go into settings-edit settings and clikc on FTP

 

type in ftp server details, username and password.

 

The directory needsd to be images (no / in name)

 

Call the filename webcam.jpg.

 

also make sure silent retry is enabled.

 

Then in the module settings

 

filename should be webcam.jpg

locations needs to be images/ (with a trailing / this time - just to confuse!)

 

(Camlabel is camlabel - i think that is something to do with having 2 webcams running at once - can't remember )
