Windows 7 and VMware network

I have Windows 7 64bit and Vmware 7, I also have Virtual Box loaded on the machine. I cant seem to get my virtual network adapters to connect to the network - see screen shot. I cant ping the outside world from any of my Windows PC's but the funny thing is I don't have the same issue with Ubuntu Re-Mix which connects to the outside world without any problems running in Vmware 7

 

Anyone got the answer??

I remember having this problem when VMware Workstation 7 was first released. Do you have the latest version installed (currently v7.0.1.227600) and is the VMs network adapter set to bridged mode?

Have you checked the status of the adapters themselves? There's a clickable link over to the left on the panel you are looking at "change adapter settings"

 

I expect you have, in which case, I'm clueless.

Change the adapter type attached to the virtual machine - i was using the default and getting problems - change to an intel one and a bridged adapter and it worked straight off.

Hello all,

The network adaptors are bridged and the VM machine's (Server 2003 and Windows XP) can communicate ok, I just cant get to the outside world. I'm interested in James comments about using an Intel driver instead of the VMware driver. Where do I need to change this? can you please let me know.

To use the Intel adapter you need to add the following line to your VMX file (located in the folder where the VM is saved). You can open this file any text editor e.g. Notepad, but make sure the VM isn't running beforehand.

 

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

 

N.B. VMware Workstation usually assigns this NIC to 64-bit guests, so you won't need to edit the VMX for these since it's already using it.
