We're currently trialling AB Tutor which has proved to be even better than has been suggested on these forums however there is no request assistance option does anyone know of a package that can do this preferably free but I'll look at anything at the moment?

Interesting way round it. However I don't want to use Remote Assistance in this instance but would still like something that a user could click and a server program would let us know via pop-up or something similar?

Write a script that uses a 'net send' (or equivalent) message to the helpdesk, include the users IP address in the message and use that to remote in, then just put a shortcut to that script on the users desktop/start menu/wherever they're likely to look

EDIT:

Alternatively, have it create a file with the details in a folder only admins have access to, that way you won't be plagued by annoying pop-ups if people get a bit 'trigger happy' with the help request button

Sadly net send is only available in XP pro msg is used in vista and seems to be a little awkward (there's a surprise) between xp and vista comms. I am in the process of writing an app that will automatically email to the helpdesk (we use GLPI but it would work with anything that accepts email as a new ticket) also it will message the tech computers directly showing a notification message on their screens and possibly a sound played (lol). The basic one sits in the systray at the moment.
