Net logon service

Morning all.

 

I have a frustrating problem, I have an XP workstation that refuses to start the net logon service. Error 1068 dependancy group failed to sart. I have tried reinstalling the Network Client, but no luck. I am running sfc /scannow to see if it can find/replace any faulty files relating to it, but it doesn't look like fixing it. Only other thing I can think of trying is to load SP3 on. I have tried google searching but cant seem to find a solution to my problem.

 

Has any body else encountered this and fixed without recloning?

My problem had to do with that a member of staff kept uninstalling the Client for Microsoft Networks option from network settings!!

 

Have you checked all the correct options are there?

Yeah, I have removed and reinstalled the client services. Even re-added windows components using an XP cd.

Is the Workstation service running correctly?

I have had a look, and the following will not start:

 

Alerter

Computer Browser

Messenger

Net logon

RPC Locator

Server

Workstation

 

 

All these are part of the same dependancy group, and will not start without the others starting up, vicious cycle :'(

Workstation is a predicate to netlogon, that would be why netlogon wont work :-)

I guessed when reading the error log, lol. Any idea how I can get the workstation to start correctly, or is it a re-image jobby?

To try get it working briefly you could make each service restart on fail, not fail and stop on 3rd attempt. I would probably start from scratch though, we had a lot of Dell pre-imaged machines like this in my old job the time it took to fiddle it was quicker to just start from scratch.

Just rebuild it.

 

When core stuff goes wonky its much easier. Had a similar issue when the core TCP/ip stack was boned and irrecoverable

Thought that might be the case, really wanted to avoid rebuilding. Oh well, lets see what it says after I have installed SP3 and then re-do the client.
