Apologies if this has already been posted, but can someone direct me to the the current / latest install guide for Sims.Net on the Capita Support site or email me the PDF? Many thanks.

Is this the latest:

KB28205: How to set up a workstation to run SIMS on SIMS .net / How to run Simsinst.exe

Created 23/09/2004, last updated 11/09/2008??????

do you just want a client install?

then just run simsinst.exe from the sims share/setups folder.

go through the wizard and hey presto. assuming the user has privileges on the local machine to install.

The PDF's from capita included on the Autumn 2009 CD are useful (also the FMS Installation) however they do not mention the following setup steps:

Edit config.nt -> files=254

Environment variable -> LANID = nn

Borland Database Engine configuration

-> system - max file handles = 121 and

-> driver - paradox - net dir change from c: to S:\sims

These have been done by previous technical support people at our authority and it's just stuck with us. does anyone know if these still need to be changed or is this just legacy stuff now?

We want to minimise the amount of work that needs to be done on each workstation as we roll them out now.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

looks like legacy to me, from the pre .net days.

never seen the first one and never had to configure borland.

the lanid is the old way when we ran sims launcher, and that's defo not needed.

Edit config.nt -> files=254 way old-school, if they're using something that requires this, they shouldn't be using it because it's deprecated

Environment variable -> LANID = nn no longer needed

Borland Database Engine configuration

-> system - max file handles = 121 and I've never set this

-> driver - paradox - net dir change from c: to S:\sims If you're using FMS, paradox needs to dump a lock file somewhere that users can write to, so it's common to change the default directory. We place it at c:\pdox\ and our simsperm.bat script gives domain\simsusers full control over that directory.

And apparently my message is too short because it's in quote tags.
