DSMeter - Windows Movie Maker

Hi,

 

We are currently using DSMeter on our Novell network to control which file types are allowed to be saved on which mapped drives. Currently DSMeter is setup to allow all media file types and block office file types to be saved to our media drive (M:) Likewise on users home folders (H:) they can only save office files and not media files.

 

Each user has their own folder on the Media Drive (M:) that only they can write to. We have tested for mp3's, wav's etc from audacity and they save no problem.

 

The issues comes with WMM. When we try and "save to my computer" and select the correct drive (M:) we get a message saving the file type is blocked yet wmv's are alllowed......

 

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, seems that WMM is the problem here and not file type rules as other applications do not have this issue.

This is probably too obvious for it to be the problem, but just in case: are you saving the project or the movie file?

It may be something along the lines of WMM exporting to a temp file before the WMV encoding takes place, therfore the temp file creation is being blocked.

 

If you export from WMM to another location first, then copy the wmv to the media drive, does that work?

 

Sounds like a pretty tidy setup you got over there.

We are saving the movie file, by going to Finish Movie>Save to My Computer

If we export to say a memory stick (although we don't allow usb access for students) then we can copy the wmv into the media drive no problem at all. Its just saving directly from WMM that we have the problem.

I've just done a quick test and it would appear that WMM doesn't seem to create any other files than the *.wmv file. So, scratch my idea!!

 

I exported a project to WMV and kept refreshing the explorer window that WMM was exporting to. All that happened was the *.wmv file was created and it grew in file size as the project exported.

Yeah I tested that too but no joy. God knows what its doing!

I did notice under tools>options you can specify a location for temporary files. Not sure if this could have something to do with it?
