Hey,

 

A techer has bought me a powerpoint that she has worked on all of last night and she says she cannot open it in school, I went to the computer and it gave an error message like could not open becasue no text convertor is installed for this file.

Looked on microsoft for a bit of help and hints towards not having fully updated office software however there are no updates for it? just wondering if anyone had seen this before and solved it?

an error like? Would be good to have the exact text from the error. Do you have Office2k3 and she has 2k7?

 

Sounds like you may not have the compatability pack installed??

I am guessing 1 of 2 things

 

- She is using office 2007 and you have 2003 at school

or

- She is using a font that you dont have in school and it cannot be converted to a normal font which would be installed.

Solution, Check what version she is using and if it is 2k7 and you have 2k3 install compatibity pack... and also make sure she is not using any 3rd part fonts and ifso get her to change them.

I have both 2k3 and 2k7 and opens in neither, also tried opeing it with open office but get general error input/output error.

just went and spoke to her, said she is using calibri which is standard font on 2007 and 2003 i think.

I think I had this problem the other week. Our problem was due to a recent Windows security update (December-ish, I think) intefering with the Office Compatability Pack. I've got a feeling I searched Google for the answer and actually found the solution on EduGeek. Do you have an error number we can search for?

Ah right yeah okay that is 2007 default.

 

As Dhicks said error code would be usfull if you have it

she hasnt got hold of an office 2010 beta has she?

i dont know if she had a 2010 beta pack but gave her a copy of open office, told her to open it up and copy and paste it into that? at least ill be able to open it. there is no error numbers or codes, only the line of text that I put earlier.
