Adobe Acrobat won't let me open embedded .zip (and plenty of other types too) files..

Should you wish to open embedded files that Adobe don't think you should...

 

Look in this registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\FeatureLockDown\cDefaultLaunchAttachmentPerms".

 

The Adobe site mentions there is a "plist" but not where it is...

Not sure why you're having this problem. If I type a URL into MS Word, for example:

 

http://www.logistixonline.com/example1234.zip

 

Then convert the document to a PDF and by clicking the link I receive a security window. Click Allow and I am prompted to download the file. This is using Adobe Reader 9.3.

That's a link embedded into a PDF, not a .ZIP file embedded.

 

I found a nice feature of CS4 / Acrobat, the only feature that I might consider leaving the software on my PC for.

Acrobat adds the ability to Outlook to create a PDF out of mail folders, attachments and all.

However it doesn't warn that certain attachment types can't easily be accessed once inside the PDF.

 

The help link on the Adobe site mentions this, and says that there are certain file types that only a regedit will allow access to. Helpfully, the Adobe site does not list the key that you need to edit to allow access to the prohibited files.
