farquea Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 ive had a printer appear in HP WebJetadmin software with a dhcp assigned ip and its default hostname as if its been reset. Problem is ive no idea where it is. I know its a classroom printer but before i do some long way round of checking names of printer against the list in WebJet is there an easy way to locate something to the network port its plugged into from its ip address?
dhicks Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Problem is ive no idea where it is. Is it plugged in, with paper, ready to print? You could print an image or something to it then check and see which printer it came out on. -- David Hicks
enjay Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Is it plugged in, with paper, ready to print? You could print an image or something to it then check and see which printer it came out on. Or print something saying "you've won a prize - go the IT Support office to claim it" then sit back and wait for someone to come and tell you where the printer is :-) 1
solitaire89 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 knock it off the network, wait for someone to come tell you it's not working - this way you get 2 points: 1. you find where the printer is 2. you get into the good books for the world's quickest fix
Slewis Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) Naw, you guys got it all wrong, don't rely on the users! Just start unplugging network portions, when the device stops responding to ping, you've found it! ~More seriously, I take it you don't have any information filled in on the printer's HTTP page? bio Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I don't know if you have managed switches but then you could figure out on which port it is connected bio..
