Before I start poking deeper, has anyone experienced any issues where some users experience delays when running reports? Sometimes reports can take hours to run.

Does SIMS .net create any 'temporary files' anywhere that perhaps need to be cleared?

If two users run the same report (not at the same time) does it take longer for one than the other?

Is it a massive report?

Check the cpu/memory situation on your SIMS server to see if its getting a raw deal.

I assume that it is not the simple problem of 2 members of staff trying to access report at the same time?

If Person A runs a report and does not close it down after they have finished with it then that report may not be available to Person B until Person B does close it.

No it's one user running the reports at a time.

SIMS server is pretty high spec and SIMS probably only has ~7 users on it repeatedly all day.

I'll work out the specifics of the report later today.

The data and the report is created in 'My Documents\tempSimsRpt' i believe.

Have you tried previewing the report to see how long it takes to pull the data out?

The report in question runs within seconds for me so I really don't know what the issue is. The users are in the same AD group as myself.

is it a built in report or custom? is it a new report? what does the report do?

has the user managed to get the report to run quickly previously?

do you get the warning from SIMS that 'this report may take some time...' ?

does the user have the same SIMS permissions as you do?

test on their workstation logged in as them: them running sims and the report, then you running sims and the report. see what the difference is, then try again but with you logged in to the workstation and repeat.

Okay, this is user specific.

Logging in to the machine as 'auser' and the report takes ages to run. Logging in as 'buser' and the report runs instantly. On each occasion the same user is logging in to SIMS.

try flushing my documents or at least the my sims documents folder this will get recreated. also, flush any temporary / office files, as well as getting rid of the tempsimsrpt from whereever that is.

does auser have access to c:\windows and c:\windows\temp or at least the same as buser?

perhaps just delete the auser local profile and get it to refresh from server assuming you have an element of roaming profiles. that could get rid of any corruption. we've had a bit of that, especially with office.
