cc3, i have not thought about portable versions at the moment, would need to add a software restriction policy etc (which i think is a reboot job) and the proxy setting, and wouldnt be a 2 sec job. i know package allocation would require a reboot too lol but i dont know if it was the wine last night or the repeating "yes i know about it, its the same for the whole school, i have been working on it since 850 thurs, county cant solve and have passed to rm who are looking at the issue. it will be fixed when it is fixed... sorry"

plus chrome gets IEs proxy settings lol

Pupils should be able to install Chrome by themselves.

everyone should have chrome installed anyway...it rocks! but kids cant install anything or run none whitelisted exes

I mean, Chrome installs into the user directory. The install doesn't affect system files, so if you add it to the whitelist, they should be able to add it themselves.

Have you looked at this thread:

Works a treat!

You will have to follow the customisations later in the thread.

Why not try portable chrome - Google Chrome Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives ? No need to deploy anything, just run from a shared drive.

Oops, just been asked to deploy Chrome, so tried this myself. It works fine, right up until the point that you make the files read only. It then complains about being run from a read only location & then suggests it could copy itself somewhere temporarily. Back to the drawing board then...

This, http://pack.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=118663&cbid=wa7pmmvu35xe&src=cb&lev=answer, looks interesting - it says it can install for all users on the machine...

To resurrect this thread - I've installed and run chrome from a shared drive, but this way it remembers the browsing history for each visit to the shared drive. How can I run this so that it runs without retaining any data when it closes, or is being accessed by more than one user at a time?

Thanks, sorry if its a stupid question.
