dolmandj Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Hi All I have installed a program Mapinfo on a school domain (CC3). The school then after did not want the program so i deleted the package from the domain. But i am still geting the window installer looking for the cd each time a user logs on. The user has to keep pressing the cancel button and it takes ages to get rid of the dialog box. I have used the windows installer cleanup utility on all computer but this has made no differents. Any help would be good cheers darren
SYNACK Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I think that TweakUI http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx has something that can kill install items but it has been ages since I used XP. If the Cleanup utility did not work though you may need a copy of the original MSI to uninstall it.
sparkeh Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Did you deallocate the package first before removing it from the domain? If not then you are faced with either uninstalling manually on each machines or reinstating/recreating the package and deallocating.
srochford Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 - page refers to Office but it works for any MSI package). If that cleans up a machine then you can use MSIZap (Msizap.exe (Windows)) in a machine startup script to automate the removal.
sparkeh Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Depending on how you removed the package you may also want to check the stations' .ini files to ensure its not still listed to remove any chance of an attempted reinstallation
