Stopping mail from previous occupant

Having just moved into my first house a few months ago, I'm still getting a ton of mail for the previous occupant. I have no forwarding address, as unfortunitely the lady who owned the property passed away, and I keep dumping items in the mail box with 'No longer known at this address' written on the front of them, but I'm still getting a ton of mail which is starting to get annoying.

 

Any one got ideas on the best way of stopping it?

I had that as well. I was just puttng 'Return to sender. No longer at this address' on them and putting them in the post box. Most of them did stop after a while. I did also see the postman and explained to him about it and he was taking some of the letters back to the sorting office for me as well.

Currently suffering from this with MBNA sending letters for the guy before the guy I bought the house from 18 months ago!

 

Tried explaining to them but they are still happy sending 2 letters a month to us. No wonder royal mail struggles, and think of the environment (a laugh when you see the "please recycle me" on the envelopes they use!).

You can also register for junk mail in a previous occupant's name if you have just moved into a new property.

 

So I guess keep doing what you are already doing.

Hi Mike,

 

It would appear that the Administrators of the previous occupant have not made arrangements with Royal Mail to redirect the ladies mail.

 

Therefore, if you endorse all her mail "Deceased" and repost the senders will, hopefully, get the message, update their address lists accordingly, and stop sending.

I'd say go down to the sorting office and tell them. I've found talking to the sorting staff to be more useful than posting things in a mailbox with writing on.

We still get occasionally get post for the previous occupant and the occupants before them. We have lived here since 2003.

 

That is after putting 'Not known at this address' and using the Customer Direct website [referenced in this thread in an earlier post]

 

We keep trying: If my post was going astray I would like to think that the person it went to would try to get it back to me.

I just found out that my shredder has broken down. After last use I put it away working. Now I have to go and buy another [not what I had planned for Sunday afternoon]
