wesleyw Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 SAN Software: I've been playing with all of these today however the free version of kernsafe only seems to allow a single connection as does openfiler (if you can correct me on this it would be much appreciated openfiler that is I know for certain free kernsafe doesn't) The free version of starwind allows two connections concurrently but I still get the same error when trying to use XenCenter to create a storage instance the first of two XenServers connects but the second doesn't if there a way of setting up XenCenter so that only one of these needs to connect otherwise it just states broken? KK20 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Dont forget your file system on the drive counts. You should be able to create plenty of iSCSI targets but only one machine will connect to each target (as intended). https://forums.openfiler.com/viewtopic.php?id=838 will give you more info.
wesleyw Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Ah right that would explain why XenCenter can't get both VM boxes to attach at the same time each would have to be done seperately on each XenServer which isn't very useful if I want to do live migration. Wes

jamesreedersmith Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Ive set up and have working dual openfiler, dual VM ware all in high availability mode full failover of either box VM or OPenfiler causes a failover to the other. All using a single LUN.

Guest Guest Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) Just a heads up; We've been experiancing performance problems with our SAN. It was a HA clustered, DRBD, Openfiler running iSCSI. Turns out openfiler didnt like our Dell PERC 6/i and was going abit mental; stupidly high CPU load with massivly low IO performance on the HDs. Not good at all. Decided to build one up myself using Ubuntu and NFS and its working a treat. (If you want something done right and all that...) After a year with iSCSI and a recent move to NFS so far i think NFS is the way to go with Xenserver. Its just so much more flexible. If you do stay with openfiler - in the interface it says "max connections = 1". This is correct. Xen does the management of having 2 or more hosts in a pool sharing the 1 SR. Just make sure you allow all the xen hosts IPs. Edited February 12, 2010 by Guest
