acrobson Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Hi all, I have just noticed, all of a sudden the DVD drive on my PC has vanished from 'My Computer' after moving to Windows 7. It was there a few days ago? I have tried the usual, re-move and re-install in device manager, reinstalled drivers etc etc. Nothing! Has anyone else had this or know of a quick fix?
Dos_Box Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Open Device Manager-right-click and CD\DVD drives you may have with the warning triangle next to them and uninstall them by right clicking them and selecting ‘Uninstall’ from the menu. Next go to Start and type ‘regedit’ into the run\search box then locate the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BExxxxx}. There may be several of these but your drive should be the first listed. Expand this and look for the ‘LowerFilters’ entry. Right-click this and select ‘Delete’. Then do the same for the ‘UpperFilters’ entry. Reboot your computer and without pressing any other keys except those required to login you should see Windows re-install your drives with the correct settings. Please ensure you backup your registry before performing this procedure. 1
