pete Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Does anyone have a cost for FMS over and above SIMS? We currently have the Sims installed but not FMS. We have a new finance manager who would like to know an approximate price for FMS. Currently Sage costs us around £850 a year I think Give Capita a ring. As someone who supports Sage and FMS, I'd make sure that the benefits of FMS (integration with SIMS) outweigh losing Sage support. (Our lot love Sage and hate FMS).
SpuffMonkey Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 We pay about £1700 for FMS, but we don't have Sims - so they might've bumped the price up.
Tonyoung Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 the cost will depend on the number of pupils on roll and whether you are a LA supported school or take your support direct from Capita.
dhicks Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Currently Sage costs us around £850 a year I think Don't forget to take training in to account - I think our move from QuickBooks to FMS was priced at around £6,000 including training for 5 or so admin staff. That strikes me as pretty reasonable for an enterprise-type application, and Capita consultants were on hand to answer queries. In the end we decided it would be easier all round if we simply kept using QuickBooks (which, with 5 staff doing accounts, is really all we need), which we now run from a TS server. The cost of the software might be quite small compared to the cost of re-training staff. -- David Hicks

matt40k Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 And add to that the fact that FMS is completely hideous - wish I could get our lot to move onto a "proper" accounting system. I'm sure they would if any "proper" accounting system would link into SIMS. I guess we're stuck waiting for FMS7 with all it's shinny goodness.
Sivadam Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 FMS6 might be hideous but it works! ...and it links to SIMS ...and the new link to Web Ordering looks like it will be a big help when the initial teething problems are sorted. Roll on FMS7! (.... and EO7 .... and Sysman7! Anybody think of any others?)
Tonyoung Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 When is FMS 7 due - is that a net version with SQL server ?
matt40k Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 7 is basically .NET in SIMS terms. FMS already uses SQL (2005/2008). I wouldn't hold your breath. Assessment seems to be Capita(ES) main goal for 2010/11. Having said that, they want SIMS .net to be Windows 7 ready (or whatever the MS fancy word is now), which means they (should) need to make everything .NET.
SpuffMonkey Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I'm sure they would if any "proper" accounting system would link into SIMS. I guess we're stuck waiting for FMS7 with all it's shinny goodness. As I said - we don't have SIMS - just FMS
teejay Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Having worked with both FMS and Sage, the benefits of Sage far outweigh the SIMS integration of FMS. It would be much more sensible if Capita just made a SIMS connector into Sage and resold Sage tbh.
pete Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 . and Sysman7! While we're chasing mythical beasts, can I have a unicorn*? *may accept pony with cornetto attached
SpuffMonkey Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 What is your MIS? Hi Matt If you were asking me - we have CMIS - FMS was just a hangover from before because we didn't rate Serco's offering - I believe they are due to include a better one (though the name escapes me).
