01hanstu Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Hi. I used to have an RM CC3 Network installed but we made the move to a Windows network. One thing I do miss is the Management Console. It was great as you could make staff delegate and they could reset users passwords, turn the internet on/off ... Is there a similar solution, preferable free, that is out there? Thanks Stuart
Edu-IT Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Perform a search on here for 'staff reset passwords' and you'll find lots. I'm not sure the internet one is going to be as easy. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/2022-self-service-password-reset.html Latest release: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/2022-self-service-password-reset-6.html#post149076 Edited December 22, 2009 by Edu-IT
DaveMurphy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Maybe for the Internet use a Lan Monitoring Program? Don't know of any free ones though.
01hanstu Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 Thanks for the replies. Im leaning more towards changing passwords. like with RM you go to the URL and it asks for a password and if you are a 'delegate' they you can get in. So i can have a group called pwdmgr and add ict teachers to it so they can go to https://server_name/ and login the can view the users. Thanks Stuart
Domino Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Have a search for 'custom mmc' you can delegate password changing rights to a certain group and then make a custom management console that just has access to the password changing section. Its pretty simple, but requires a bit of thinking of how you want it applied with regard to your OU/group layout.
Firefox Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 For the Internet access you could create different group policies, for those you wish to deny internet access to, simply "Misconfigure" your proxy settings and apply it to the OU in which the users you wish to deny reside. Then deny users rights to change the Lan Connections under IE It's not the cleanest way, but if you already have AD, it's free :-D
