tommccann Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Acer Veriton M464 running XP Pro SP3, when i insert anything into the card reader (USB pen, SD Card) it crashes My Computer until i remove the card. I redownloaded and installed the Sm Bus driver from Acer, and i also did an windows hardware update and it found one for the reader but no difference! Also tried going into disk management when the card is inserted but it just says loading for ages without any progress Any Ideas?? (ps the other front USB drives work fine, but the one on the internal card reader doesnt)
Jamo Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Get the driver direct from the manufacturer if you can find it (Hope for no texas instruments!!) You might be lucky and find a good one! Alternatively download W7 or linux
arthur231283 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 What anti virus are you running? I had an issue where my anti virus was causing the same symptoms
tommccann Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 its nvidia, but i cant find out what model it is! Running Sophos the worlds most tempremental antivirus
arthur231283 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Thats the anti virus that caused me the issue. Try disconnecting the computer from the internet/network, uninstall sophos and try again. Even if this is not the cause it would be good to try to rule it out
tommccann Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 just got a new driver straight from nvidia so will try that first then try removing anal:censored: Sophos
tommccann Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 No joy with both efforts!! im gonna throw it out the window soon
Jamo Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Ah nVidia chipsets :s Try it with linux boot disc see if the same issue is present.
