Network name no longer available?!

Very odd problem this morning!

Came in to find some machines that were working fine just dropped their connection to either Exchange, file server or database server and throwing up "network name no longer available" errors

Some are fine, others then come back up... all on different switches, no errors in DNS or AD. Internet still works, ping still works and it's not every PC!

Just had one say "attempted operation on a non existent network connection" even though the connection is still live with an IP!

I'm wondering if the core switch has thrown a wobbly (5308xl) as it hasn't had a power cycle in about 2 years, any other quick suggestions?

OK back online for now

Might sound a bit far fetched but I think what happened was...

- found a log on ProCurve Manager saying a port on a room switch was being flooded with broadcasts at 8.30 this morning, traced that back to the PC and removed it for NIC replacement

- the subsequent network crap that was being spewed out somehow crashed out the file sharing service on our main file server, had to reboot it as I could browse via UNC to every other server on the network apart from that one!

Fingers crossed everything behaves itself now, just when you think things are calming down a bit something always crops up
