Veritas Backup 9.1 Remote Problem

When I install remote on one 2003 server on the "main" server I can see the C, D, E and Fdrive of the remote server.

 

When I install remote on another 2003 server the C D and E are greyed out .. and only the shares are available

 

So i uninstall remote for the first remote server that was working with remote and reinstall remote on the greyed out remote server and C,D and E are still greyed out and I get

 

"Selection of this item is disabled

Your are not authorised to access this item

a license key is not installed on the machine or it is old and incompatiable"

 

Now they are both 2003 servers and it was working on the one but not the other..

 

Any ideas ?

I recently had to remove the agent, restart, install agent, restart.

Access available then.

 

Other possibility is the account Veritas is using to access the server. Does it have permissions to access the default shares c$ etc.?

As it was working on another server then I took it off of that server and reloaded it onto this server..

 

So I went from 2 server with no grey to 1 server with greyed out C, D E Drives

Yes I did use the reboot option and and the account is Domain Admin...

From my experiance veritas keeps taps on its licence keys and you can definatly only use one remote server key on one server (hence your original problem). I suspect that it is still assigned to your first server hence the second problem.

Can you access \\servername\c$ etc from the backup server directly from the run command?

 

Remove the agent from each server from the local control panel.

Reboot servers.

 

In BackupExec, got to Tools - Serial Numbers and Installation

 

Select the Local and Remote Install, and remove the agent serial.

 

Re add the serial and remotely install on the number of servers you have licences for.
