Open security of the SIMS folder on local PC Domain Users to Modify.. all execpt 1 PC that does not have securtiy ... only sharing ... Logged on as domain admin nothing... logged on as Local Administrator... nothing.. Am I being a bit thick or is there something wrong.. Any ideas ? Somebody Said FAT issue... But if it was FAT would the user have automatic modify rights and SIMS would open ?
ChrisC Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Firstly, what OS are you running and what version of sims? Have you got on demmand anti virus scanning enabled, will make sims appear to hang if it's trying to do an update at logon..... Chris
_Bob_ Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 If it only has sharing it's probably a FAT32 filesystem which has no support for file permissions. Failing that is this PC a member of a domain? If not check that simple file sharing is disabled.

NetworkGeezer Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Were you using your own version of SIMSPerm.bat? You may need to take owner ship of the folder and then define permissions again. Also go into the Advanced dialog box and check the "replace permissions on child objects..." box.

OutToLunch Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 On the offending PC, have you double checked that simple file sharing is turned off? Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Advanced Settings -> Untick "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" Could you also confirm whether the disk is formatted using FAT32 or NTFS - open My Computer, right click the drive and choose "Properties", look at the "File System" section.
Grommit Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 Thank you Guys >..... Its embarrasing as I was the FAT to NTFS issue.... I did not look at it as I was convinced that all were NTFS :oops:
