Data Recovery

Hello,

 

We have a Maxtor 2.5" portable HDD, one of the USB jobs.

 

It is now unreadable, and the usual basic data recovery tools we use (Try Linux, and Spinrite) will not even pick the drive up.

 

Sadly it belongs to my Head, and she desperately needs the data off there.

 

Does anyone know of any reliable data recovery firms who would be able to try and extract data from this device?

I saw a recommendation for them in a another edugeek thread and gave them a go.

 

Unfortunately they werent able to recovery our data as the HDD was completely dead but the diagnosis is free and they post it back to you for free.

Have you been trying to access the data using those tools with the drive still in it's enclosure?

 

If so take it out connect it to a pc/laptop and then try it.

I would not rely on the assessment of Fields "technicians", another company are likely to be able to recover it as long as they haven't removed parts to cover their tracks as they normally do (I worked there, I know). Google them before accepting this recommendation
