k-strider Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Any Plumbers here!!! can you put a heat leak rad lower than the boiler in a gravity fed DHW system? obviously im hoping the rayburn will just need to keep the Hot water hot and won't need to use the heat leak, but airing on the side of caution i want to put it in... i want it on the other side of the wall to the rayburn in the next room rather than traditionally upstiars in the bathroom. trouble is the bottom of the Rad will be lower than the boiler return.... i could bring the boiler return down below the rad as an option or do i not even need to do this? k-strider Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 yeah and no... its an always open rad, but its not on the pumped circut its on the DHW gravity fed side.. see here Rayburn Cookers the pump and regular CH is the other side of the injector T.
farmerste Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 if you are using the extra heated dhw to heat this radiator, then this radiator will have to be a non- ferrous one, otherwise you will go a rusty shade of brown. I cannot see why the hot water ( for washing) should not be pushed through a radiator regardless of its position, but you will need some sort of return from the other side of the radiator back to the cooler dhw header tank. So long as this dhw radiator is lower than the header tank, then i theory it should work. It is hard to say definitively, but if you are unsure, you can always connect one up using hep2O piping, and see what happens. Or am i misunderstanding your description, and all your radiators are -non ferrous ?

k-strider Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 Farmerste.. the Rad is separate to the actuall DHW its part of the boiler to coil loop see attached.. i've installed it all now.. just got some oil work to do before i can turn it on and test it... the real q is since it has to be gravity fed the rad is actually a little lower than the rayburn, and i was conserned that it wont flow through it but just through the Cylinder.. i've brought the whole return flow pipe right down below the Rad which i think will solve it.. but will find out soon enough. Nice to do something a bit different than IT though lol..
