Migrate a SharePoint Services 3.0 Site

Hi,

 

One of our servers running out of space, so decided to move Sharepoint Services 3.0 (SP2) to another server.

 

Installed on the new server (2008), downloaded the Sharepoint Services 3.0 SP2 (works on 2008 from SP1 upwards).

 

Installed, management site working as intended. Performed a backup on the original server.

 

When performing a restore on the destination server i get errors that it already exists etc...

 

Anyone done this before and succeeded?

Needed to create the DB recovery areas manually, and assign permission for "NETWORK SERVICE" to modify in said folders.

 

It's recovering now

Now stuck when recovering to the new server, it copied over the DBs, sharepoint farm settings and everything, just struggles to publish the site in IIS.

 

"ArgumentException: The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint. You must select another port or hostname."

 

Googling atm.

Dispite deleting the IIS Sites for the template Sharepoint sites in IIS, they still claim the ports (in Sharepoint Manager).

 

Using "Application Management"

Remove SharePoint from IIS Web Site

 

Select the "Default Sharepoint - 80" site and remove from IIS

 

Restore the backup that used port 80 on the previous server.

 

 

When i did this it had another error appear, however it was because the "Windows Sharepoint Administration" service was not started, and was required.

 

Attempting to publish the restored site in IIS now.

When recovering had to give the data store a new name (took 2 attempts to get this sorted) and make sure that the "Alternate Mappings" in Sharepoint Operations had the old URL removed (otherwise the site failed to restore as the url was in use in sharepoint, even if it wasnt in iis).

 

Recovered fine to the new server (2008R2 x64).
