Is iLife included with OSX Panther?

I need to restore an eMac tomorrow, got the stack of 13 cd's that came with it, but the teacher whose it is says the main thing she needs back is iLife which is iPhoto, iDVD, GarageBand etc

 

Its installed on all the Macs so we've got it somewhere but I dont know if its included on one of those many CD's or if I need to go hunting for another disc?

 

Anyone know?

I didn't think that Apple started giving away iLife with new machines until well after the release of Tiger.

You tend to get the iLife suite with a purchase of any new Mac- sooooo- you should indeed have a DVD with it on somewhere. It is- AFAIK- a separate DVD too.

Also remember that you can only load on the version of iLife that you got with the machine ... eg iLife05, instead of the newer iLife06 (purchase this on a volume licence plan from an Apple Solutions Expert near you!)

Right Ive had a look on the OSX Install discs and they have iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes, but strangely not iDVD or Garageband..which seems weird

 

Or were they standard components prior to iLife?

iPhoto, iTunes and (I think...) iMovie are/were standard parts of OSX.

 

iPhoto and iTunes have to be, as they contain part of the "expected" functionality of the operating system, similar to the Windows media player and the picture viewer and camera wizards in Windows.

 

Other than that, iLife is not a standard OS component but rather part of the "Hardware Bundle" you get when you buy a Mac, or a seperate purchase.

 

I certainly didn't get iLife bundled in when I purchased my iBook, which was when 10.3 was a new release, but iLife got added to the hardware bundle sometime during the lifetime of 10.3 because it came bundled with our very first Mac Mini purchase here at teh college, which arrived just before Tiger was released.

Well Ive searched around everywhere and there is no iLife disc so god knows where they got it from, may have to be another purchase

Right I found out:

 

iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie are on the OS X installation discs

 

iDVD and GarageBand are on the software restore discs

 

I decided not to restore the whole machine afterall anyway, as it was only one teachers user account having problems, so Ive just deleted it and recreated it

 

Does anyone know, when you create an account with the same name as one you've deleted, it is a brand new user yes? I know Windows goes on the SID, wondered if OSX does the same?

You could just copy the apps straight out of the application folder if you are "entitled" to of course. Back up the application support folders in the library and then you should be ready to go once you put them back where they belong on the other machine.

 

You will need a DVD-DL if you want to back them up though. I have tested this to see if it works and i never came across any problems. You may also want to copy the fonts folder as well since some fonts are used for the ilife suite.

 

I had panther with my G5 and ilife is on the discs. So should be on the 1st install dvd?

 

Any how if the discs cannot be found you may need a back up anyway.
