If you're only printing a few pages a week then it's not too much bother to go pick them up from a departmental shared printer.

 

Indeed, but there's not that much difference in cost, for the amount of printing our staff do (we do have large, central devices for big print runs), between buying more shared lasers and having individual inkjets. A few thousand extra a year might be considered worth the convienience. I'd definatly recommend getting inkjet printers with removeable print heads, though, it saves all sorts of palavar with gummed up machines.

We've I think just bought one for a room that is about 5 metres away from another room with a colour laser. 5 seconds walk away

 

Our teachers don't like exercise here either - I've got to order 2 new teacher chairs for our ICT rooms because the current ones have broken. Pupil abuse or too many pies for teacher's lunch?? You decide!

 

Back on thread, we scrapped all our inkjets years ago when the ink kept drying up through lack of use. How many of those users REALLY needed a printer of their own?

We have an improving situation, at least... the situation a few years ago was inkjets and cheap lasers all over the shop. As time goes by we're removing and centralising into "print areas" for example the whole Technology department has a print area, covered by CCTV, with a large A3 colour inkjet and an A4 mono laser. Likewise one in the library. The two admin offices have a mini-photocopier each, though one also has a small colour inkjet for the occasional item that needs it. Other areas still have far too many, though, but at least it's improving.
