Is it possible to use the GPP on XP clients from a Server with 2003 installed or does it only work with Server 2008.

Tried looking on MS website and googling it, but still don't know.

Thanks

the settings can be applied to a 2003/xp setup (assuming they have the update) but to my knowledge can only be edited/created on a vista/7/server08/server08r2 pc

Hi there.

Not you don't need 2008 server. I've got it running fine on my XP/Win2K3 server network. you do need the following

1: GPP Clients Side Extensions installed on all the machines (download through WSUS or maunally)

2: A windows Vista/Win7 Machine

3: The Remote Server Administration ToolKit (RSAT) running on the above machine.

Basically install RSAT on the Vista/Win7 machine and then use the Group Policy Managemnet to configure the preferences.

Feel free to PM me if you want some more info.

Thanks for that, another question though....

Can the server 2008 be a member server or does it need to be a DC?

Michael

No, the server doesn't need to be a dc and the domain functionality doesn't need to be altered.

This is how our's is set up currently, 2008 member server, 2003 domain, 2000 forest functionality (need to fix that last one me thinks, just spotted last week)

Hi Stuart,

I thought that it would be better to ask this question in the thread rather than PM as other people may also be confused.

As i've today finally got round to installing Windows 7, I've installed RSAT and have configured Windows components to show Group Policy Management.

If I apply GPP from my computer to clients and my computer is off when the clients start will they still apply?

Regards,

Michael
