RabbieBurns Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I want to move a virtualbox VM from an existing host to a new one. I copied the .vdi file, and the .xml file for the machine, and edited the Virtualbox.xml on the new host and added the entries for these. But when I try to start it it says Invalid Machine Name. Is there another step I need to do?
EduTech Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Hi Mate, on the new virtual host, create a new vm and just use an existing harddrive... that will work for you. or/ You should be able to just import the existing VM once it is in the new dir.... (dont quote me on that though, i'm away from my computer so cant double check) James.
K.C.Leblanc Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 You have to do it using the command line. Cloning and Copying VirtualBox virtual machines Stuart’s Notes
kmount Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 If you have the GUI running you can export the appliance from File, Export Appliance. If it's headless, try KC's instructions there.
