ron Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Any suggestions for an alternative to Netsupport. We use Version 9 but having problems. It works great on the administrator side for a technicians use but it is used in lessons for IT teachers to view what pupils are working on and also a main feature used is to send what is displayed on the teachers PC to all the student PCs but when they is carried out all the machines crash and require rebooting, also recently even just connecting to the machines causes them all to crash. We looked at upgrading to the latest version of Netsupport but was quoted around £10,000 which is out of our price range. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Butters Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Had problems with 9, moved to 10 and they all seemed to disappear nicely. I believe my previous college had a support contract that allowed the upgrade path to 10, could that be an option as Netsupport does what it does very well in the latest version.
ron Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Are you able to state how much it cost to move from Netsupport V9 to V10 or was this free as you also mention a previous college had a contract. I'm not sure if we have a contract, we may have just bought the software out right with no support from the company. The person that setup this software has left and we can't get hold of them. I could perhaps contact Netsupport and see what they can offer. It was the previous technician that stated the upgrade would be £10,000 perhaps this is incorrect information.
ron Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Have you taken a look at iTalc? iTALC Yes, we downloaed it and at first we were impressed with the software seeing as it is free however we have had problems with it. When we actually come to connect to a machine to control it, it stays black. Any ideas why that may be? (Have checked settings and nothing obvious stands out) Thanks!
zag Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Using Italc here and it works perfectly. The black screen thing was a bug that was rectified on the latest release I think.
ron Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 I believe it was the latest version of Italc we were testing, we also had problems trying to connect, sometimes it worked and other times it didn't. How about Classroom Management Software | LanSchool does anyone use this?
FN-GM Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 we use LanSchool. good bit of kit and easy to use
Dos_Box Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 How can you not be impressed with NetSupport. Upgrade it to 10 and bask in it's glory And you get NetSupport School for free with NSM as well!

PEO Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I was on the phone to viglen this morning asking when Classlink 9 will be supprted on windows 7 platform. I got a straight NO answer, which I'm furious about as when we upgraded easter this year we were told that windows 7 would be supported. 18 month now till Microsoft stop supporting windows xp, and we really do not want to jump to windows Vista. What do we do???

What do we do??? Why did you not upgrade to 10? Did you get maintenance as well (free upgrades)?
Quackers Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 18 month now till Microsoft stop supporting windows xp, and we really do not want to jump to windows Vista. What do we do??? XP Support ends in 2014, a whole 5 years from now for security hotfixes. For software assurance customers its also 2014 for non security fixes.
Rebecca_H Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Hi ron I would strongly suggest you re-contact NetSupport Sales to talk again about updating your NetSupport Manager to the latest version (10.5)...we may have some good news for you! Also please note that the latest version of Manager will soon contain the latest version of NetSupport School (also called v10.5) which you would receive too if you update Manager. We have far less reported problems with NSM 10+ than version 9...please do give the sales guys a call. Hope this helps. Rebecca_H 1
Rebecca_H Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Also, a webinar might help? We're always happy to set one of these up to show the new version and its features.
