KWestos Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Anyone upgrade their 2003 domain servers to 2008 by just upgrading rather than a clean install. If so, how did it go?
jsnetman Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Very risky, install might go well but on reboot all sorts of nasties could happen. far better off getting a new server and install 2008 then transfer the roles slowley. I waited until I was absolutely sure 2008 was working on 2 new servers then transferred the roles and demoted the old 2003 servers.
Dilbert Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Plan on doing a domain migration over the summer all 2003 to 2008, but all on fresh hardware and fresh installs, no upgrade option being ticked! From what i hear and using it in our test enviroment 2008 is one fancy bit of kit. The R2 is even better allows for pull real time P2V migration!! Almost does me out a job!
BrianG Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I did it in my previous post, with my Network Manager. Upgraded 2x DC's, 1 x File Server, SIMS Server and one spare server from 2003 to 2008 and it went without a hitch. That was on Dell Poweredge servers. Was definately a nail biting time though, and we made sure we had backups of the backups
