TechSupp Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Just had a reception teacher ask if she could have her class login changed from 'sapphire' to 'r1' for obvious reasons, namely the kids at that age find it difficult to type that amount of letter correctly. Whats the best way? I have created a new user with a new profile as I though this was the safest route etc but could I have just changed the login name in the AD properties of the original user, or would that have caused two many problems down the line?
FN-GM Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 You can just change the settings in the existing account and you will be just fine 1
elsiegee40 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 As FN says, just right click in AD and rename it... you must remember though that doing this does not rename the user's profile (that will still be called sapphire) and it will not rename the home directory... which will also be called sapphire. I make a note on the user in AD if I've renamed (usually due to marriage/divorce) so I remember if I'm fiddling about! 1
TechSupp Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Thanks, sticking with giving them a new profile etc so its less confussing when I come back to it 6 months later and wonder is happening!

I found this to be the best approach, especially as the original class name was in Sims and thus used for assessment reporting etc. I haven't had any issues with either AD or Sims.
