Andycat Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 We have a Vaio VGN-FS415E laptop with a replacement Hard drive. With a clean install of XP everything works fine besides the keyboard, which doesn't work at all. We have no recovery CD, and obviously the recovery partition was on the knackerd HDD. Has anyone any ideas, or better still, a recovery CD? Sony want £37 for one!
Jamo Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Does the keyboard work in the BIOS, or with a linux recovery CD? I would be inclined to think its hardware failure rather than a driver issue :s
Andycat Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Works fine in the BIOS. It's a known issue with some vaio's apparently, but not been able to figure it out!
Jamo Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Pluggin in a USB keyboard works? Have you checked to make sure that all of the keyboard is knackered? It could be the ribbon if the hard drive replacement required removal of the body of the laptop

Jamo Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 How weird!! There is a BIOS update for the unit on the Sony site, also a whole host of drivers but i'm guessing they have already been installed :s
Andycat Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Yes, all drivers and BIOS update done. We've had this problem before 2 or 3 years ago, and none of us can remember how we fixed it!
