read ext3 in win7

ive tried a couple of utils that might let me read my ext3 partition, but so far it will show the drive, and give it a letter, but when I try to browse it, will jsut say the drive is not formatted.

 

Anyone had any positive results with win7 and reading ext3?

this Ext2 IFS For Windows has always worked for me (xp, vista) but not tried under windows 7

 

there seems to be lots out there though.

You sometimes see that if the ext3 wasn't cleanly unmounted.

 

Another vote for ext2fs; not tried on W7 though:)

yeh thats the one Ive always used... Doesnt seem to work.. And I think it would be cleanly unmounted, as I shutdown ubuntu properly and reboot to win7 ..

 

I even tried installing it in vista compatibiluty etc..

not sure if its a driver or an application exactly so not sure if this is relevant or not but what about xp compatibility mode ?

If not then I would try using the command prompt as per the troubleshooting link that kmount posted with regards to the diagnostic mode to see if that helps

The volume has an Ext2/Ext3 file system, but the Ext2 IFS 1.11 software did not
mount it because the file system has an inode size unequal to 128 bytes (inode
size: 256 bytes).
The only way to solve it is to back up the volume's files and format the file
system: give the mkfs.ext3 utility the -I 128 switch. Finally, restore all
backed-up files.
After that, the Ext2 IFS software should be able to access the volume.

 

Ive not changed anything.. Im sure this used to work under xp?

Total commander and use the file system addon which should allow linux file systems to be read and written to afaik ( could be wrong ) althuogh total command is shareware
