Fantastic bit of software, free and available to download from Fences - By Stardock - Clean up your desktop clutter

 

Just installed it and i'm really pleased with the features, keeps my icon hunting to a minimum

I like to be tidy......honest!

Agreed, really useful bit of software that does something which should (and used to be!) built into windows.

 

Am I the only one that thinks it's a bit of a rip-off of the old program manager from windows 3.11 though

Haha, absolutely, but it's all shiny

 

Loving the fact that you can have your own labels, and a quick double click removes all the icons altogether. Marvellous

ha ha! Yes, that's exactly what it is! But with better animation effects!

 

I've actually removed this from the two systems I was using it on. The version I had started complaining that it needed upgrading and began running in 'reduced functionality' mode - would not let me add icons to a fence. I downloaded and installed the upgrade OK but still could not add icons to fences. I also noticed another icon in the tray called 'Impulse' which I had not asked for. I uninstalled Fences but Impulse remained. Looks like a slash/burn mission in the registry will be required.

Also look at the prices of windows 7 from an email that I got from dabs, my god !!!

 

You would of thought they should of included something like fence by star dock with windows for that price !!!

 

Not starting a flame war but even if it was a fully fledged version of OS X I doubt you would pay more then £90

 

At least not that I have seen anyway

Hmm, well you can buy the upgrade version of home premium for around £50 if you shop around! Not to mention the fact that it's a full OS upgrade for the first time in over 3 years unlike a certain fruity themed manufacturer who will charge you £100 for every yearly .1 upgrade / service pack.

LOL, I found Full windows 7 premuim for £45 and thats a FULL o/s not just a service pack. £25 for a service pack with no real new features or £45 for a full O/S with more features and improvements in huge amount of areas.

I love the OSX Snow Leapord *feature* that was described as "making usb drives remove better" on one thing. What a feature.... need to buy the upgrade for that fix, awesome value...

Anyway its not like Apple is feature complete, lots of people get software to customise it further because it just does not suite them in the same way fences is to windows.

 

BTW Fences rocks!
