New to WinSuite - help needed

I've never used winsuite before but eww..... would would you want to create a new share for each folder... is there ever a sane/decent reason for this?

not that hard for younger ones just make it so ctrl alt del isnt required and have a user r no password its even possible to set certain machines to auto login

 

I've set it so that there is no control alt del required, I've asked them about having no password for the younger kids, but they insist on having proper passwords like the older kids, something about getting them used to it for when they are older.

On the server, Have the users home folders been created and shared? If you have used the "winsuite user import wizard" it should have created a seperate folder with a share for every user you imported. This will probaly be within a folder on your server called "home" (this however depends on how winsuite was initially setup)

 

This folder will be named as the users username and shared by the same name with a $ on the end. so in the example I gave in an earlier post I would expect to see the following after import.

 

d:\home\09\fbloggs - shared as fbloggs$

and

d:\home\09\SClaus - shared as SClaus$

Followed some of your instruction from earlier posts and seem to making some headway.

 

I followed the instructions for the 'User Import Wizard' and now have:

 

a) A folder on the D: drive called '2009' with all of the new starters listed (they all have a folder each)

b) Updated class lists in Active Directory in which I have assigned 'members' to

c) All students are also in an area called USERS on Active Directory

 

What I still do not have though are the folders in the D Drive for each studets to save their work - how do I add a My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, etc?

How do you log on to a station that has winsuite as an administrator?

 

I have one option for pupils and staff but staff doesn't have the administrator account listed???

If you press alt+w a logon box will appear for you to type in a username and password.

The folders that have been created on your server D drive will in act be the users MY DOCUMENTS folders.

 

When a user logs on they should receive a mapped H: drive (which should be mapped to this folder on your server), you should find this by going to My Computer when logged on as a user.

 

Winsuite will also redirect the MY DOCUMENTS folder to this H: Drive.

 

Depending on how your system is set up The My Pictures, My Music etc folders will be created the first time a user logs on.

You then nedd to use the "Winsuite Administrator" to set up your users desktops, shortcuts Etc.

Have worked the desktop stuff out now, was quite simple so thanks for your help!

 

Now i have one computer that is causing a problem! The winsuite logon screen comes up and i logged on as administrator but can't find the winsuite administrator program!!!

 

It's also not mapping some shortcuts correctly etc....

 

My idea was top somehow remove winsuite then rejoin the pc to winsuite!! Is that something that you can do? How do you also clear profiles on the station as this might also be a problem?

 

Any suggestions?

when winsuite is first installed on the server there are 4 shares that get created.

 

From a client you need to access the "rollnt$" share. from there you can run "setup" which if winsuite is installed will give you options to uninstall, or, if not already installed, will give an install option.

I presume i don't need to rejoin the machine to the domain again as it is already?

 

So if i was to join an admin machine to the domain without installing winsuite i would just join it as usual?

 

And if it is a curriculum machine with winsuite to be installed, you join it to the domain first then install winsuite?

 

Am i right in thinking that?

What about printers? I don't seem to find how printers have been attached to computers?

 

I need to change some computers so that they can print to a differen one?

 

Is this done via winsuite administrator? can i do it from the server to a group of computers?

I'm due to start working at a primary school from next week that uses Winsuite. In an effort to get up to speed as quickly as possible I'm trying to find out some of the basics of how to use the various bits of software they've got, and winsuite I can find forum links (like this one) for working with/removing it, but NOTHING about what it is, where it comes from, or where to get support for the damned thing, if there is any. I saw it's made by NDI tech, who according to the UK site, appear to be pretending the software never existed.

 

If anyone has links towards a manual, a support page, or a place with working guides etc, it would be appreciated.
