  1. I have recently updated the user lists for members of staff in Winsute and have done the following... 1) Backed up all files from the User areas, i.e. My Documents, My Pictures and other files they have stored 2) I then deleted the lists of current Staff Users 3) I then created a brand new staff list - this created a lists of members of staff and created their folders, etc that will be in My Documents. 4) I then copied in any files that I backed up from the old list Now...It seems that if anything had been saved to the Desktop, this has disapeared. How can I get these folders / files back? I have the original User files, so can I recreate the desktop form there? Many thanks in advance for any advice.
  2. Firstly are we talking abou the same CD? It is the green Dell CD that has OPERATING SYSTEM ALREADY INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER across the top. I could not get the CD to pick up at first so I went into the Set Up part (F2) and changed the boot order to ignore a few of the drives and do USB or CD Rom drive. Is this what you were getting at in previous post? From there it goes through a long list of things it is doing - these are all listed at the bottom of the screen. The screen is blue with System Set up at the top left. From there it goes straight to the error screen again.
  3. @JJonas These are the instructions that I have been trying to follow - I can't get to the point where I choose R for RECOVERY and type into the prompt. I shall try F12 at start up and see where that takes me. Cheers.
  4. A machine in the school has suddenly come up with this error message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system32\drivers\ntfs.sys You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows set up using the original set up CD rom. Select R at the first screen tp start repair" Can simebody tell which CD I have to use? So far I have found one CD, a green Dell disc with states Reinstallation CD (Windows XP Professional) - along the top of the CD is says that this is already installed on the computer. I have found some instructions from Microsoft and another website to help me, but they do not seem to work. I keep going round and round in circles. People are now getting on my back as I can't get their machine working! Any help appreciated. Cheers.
  5. @ Jon Followed some of your instruction from earlier posts and seem to making some headway. I followed the instructions for the 'User Import Wizard' and now have: a) A folder on the D: drive called '2009' with all of the new starters listed (they all have a folder each) b) Updated class lists in Active Directory in which I have assigned 'members' to c) All students are also in an area called USERS on Active Directory What I still do not have though are the folders in the D Drive for each studets to save their work - how do I add a My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, etc?
  6. Here goes... What version of Winsuite are you using? I am using v3.51 Have you used "Winsuite User import wizard" to setup your users? I did...I think. I have been messing around with these lists for a few days so I don't really know what I have done and it's outcome. If I did the changes in Active Directory would this not just update WinSuite Administrator (maybe overnight)? As I say, all of my lists are now correct (and showing the same) on Active Directory, WinSuite Administrator and the kids log in screens, so that must have communicated somehow! In Active Directory, on the profile tab of a users properties, is the radio button checked for Home Folder connect H: to \\server\username$ The radio button is checked, and the Home folder is \\server\username$. Logon script also says Logon.bat (if this is relevant) When a user logs on do they have an H: Drive ? No. When they log on a message box appears saying "The My Documents folder could not be found. Right click the My Documents icon, click Properties, and then check that the path to your target folder location is correct". When I open My Computer I can select Desktop, and in the main window My Documents is showing - if I try to open it the same message appears, I can't right click on it (to see Properties), and File > Properties doesn't bring any joy either! If yes to all of these then winsuite should redirect MY DOCUMENTS to the H: Drive. When I then go into My Computer they have access to E, F and S drives. I have checked on WinSuite Administrator and when the group is selected, under the 'Drives' tab at the top I have checked the boxes for E, F, G, H and S to allow browsing to these drives. Does this sound right? Thanks for all the help and time you are taking with this - I am very grateful!
  7. I now have all of the new users set up and showing on the WinSuite log in screen, and have checked that the Properties in Active Directory Users and Computers are the same as some other existing users ... but they still do not have a My Documents folder! What am I missing. This is starting to really frustrate me!
  8. I only started doing this yesterday so am not sure of either set of software yet! Either way is fine. Which ever is easiest to manage. Any suggestions?
  9. Thanks for the advice. I am pretty sure that the actual class lists are okay, it's just the access the 'home directories' that seem sto eb an issue now - how do I create a My Documents, My Computer, My Pictures for the kids, and then how do I give them permission to save to them. Thanks again.
  10. Here's what I have done: 1. In Active Directory I have created users, and I have since gone into Properties and changed the 'Profile' tab to say Logon.bat and connect to the H drive and have copied the same server name and home folder (with $ at the end) - I have done this to make the Properties appear the same as existing users. 2. I have then opened WinSuite Administrator and have made sure that the Groups I have added have the same Users in them as my class lists, and have the same Drive permissions, i.e. they can see the same 'letters' of the drives. Now I am not sure about the 'Winsute User Import' you mention. I do have a shortcut for 'User Import Wizard' on the desktop, but when I open this it asks me for a file to import. The current file that it is pointing to is a list of all students from the past academic year, in csv format. I can sort of understand this, and that maybe I need to say 'Here's the list of kids' (in csv format) - but I donlt know how to generate this! I have somehow updated some of the list, and have been told to turn off all machines and then it will update. It's not really a problem for the kids who were here last year as they will all have access to either this years lists or last years, BUT I am worried that new kids seem to have been assigned User names but they have no access to MY Documents, My Computer, My Pictures or Desktop. They just can't save their work! Damn this is hard. Any help given, etc, etc ... very grateful.
  11. I am new to my school and new to WinSuite and have been placed in charge of adding users to the system and updating the class lists that appear on the login screens. I have created all of the new users (although I cannot get them to have a My Documents yet - that is to be sorted later). They have updated accordingly in the WinSuite Administrator with all classes correct, with the right users in the right groups ready to go. My problem is that when it comes to the login screen on the class room machines the list of names does not necessarily match those on the WinSuite Administrator. How do I get these to marry up and be the same? Any help would be more than useful.
