plexer Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 What do people use in their "my documents" and "desktop" etc... redirections? I have been using \\servername\%username%$ for My Docs and \\servername\%username%$\desktop for the destop but thought that using %homeshare% and %homeshare%\desktop may be better as then it doesn't matter which server the user resides on or if they are moved it would still work. Creating a shortcut to %homeshare% works when I click it and takes me to the right place but using it in a gpo it was still picking up the old wrong settings. Even after a gpudate /force and replication on both DC's. I presume it should work fine in a policy? Ben
Ric_ Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I think it should work. Did you blitz the cached profile?
Gatt Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 My Docs --> Basic (Redirect everyone to the same location) & Redirect to the users home directory In the settings tabe i have "Leave folder in new location when policy removed" checked Don't redirect the desktop - all Desktop Items disabled including right-clicks If redirecting the desktop - remember and remove "Grant User Exclusive Rights" option under the settings tab - else only 1 person will get their desktop Used to redirect it to \\servername\Desktop$ Start Menu Redirected to \\server\smenu$ (Make sure the SMenu$ folder has a folder called Programs then subfolder of what you want inside that else it wont appear on their Start Menu!
Ric_ Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 @Gatt: Good shout... that's actually what I do IIRC.
Simcfc73 Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Can't remember why but I decided to use this rather than the normal GP stuff. http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/14324.html Allows you to redirect all user folders if required and it works rather well.
